Why Did Some Customers Not Migrate?

Not all customers may transfer to Shopify during migration. Learn the most common reasons why customer records get skipped and how to identify them.

If your migrated customer count is lower than expected, the most common causes are:

  • Invalid email format - Shopify rejects records with incorrectly formatted email addresses

  • Invalid phone number format - same applies to phone numbers that don't meet Shopify's requirements

  • Duplicate email addresses - if the same email exists more than once in the source store, only one record will be migrated
