If some products are showing fewer variants than expected after migration, it's likely due to Shopify's platform limits.
Shopify's Current Variant Limits
As of October 2025, Shopify increased the variant limit from 100 to 2,048 variants per product, available on all plans at no extra cost.
However, two limits still apply:
Maximum 3 options per product (e.g., Size, Color, Material) - this has not changed
This means if your source store has a product with more than 3 option types (e.g., Size, Color, Material, and Length), Shopify cannot represent all combinations natively, and some variants may not migrate correctly.
What to Do If Your Products Exceed the Limits?
More than 3 options per product:
Use a third-party app from the Shopify App Store to handle additional product options.More than 2,048 variants per product:
Consider splitting the product into separate listings, or use a combined listings approach to display them as one product on the storefront.
